CAREER DEVELOPMENT IS A SKILL… AND YET WE DON’T TEACH ANYONE HOW TO DO IT

You have talented young professionals who are great at doing their jobs but when it comes to developing their careers, they expect you to do all of the heavy lifting.

You’re struggling to find development that genuinely resonates with them and sticks beyond the training session.

And you want them to feel more confident, proactive, and engaged in their careers, and more invested in the future of your business.

The fact of the matter is this:

Your young professionals want to build engaging, fulfilling and exciting careers, and you, as an organisation want to improve engagement, retention, and progression of your young professionals and early-career talent.

But something isn’t working.

Is that sounding a bit too familiar? Don’t worry, I can help.

At What Happens Now®, there is one simple belief…

The provision of SPECIALIST careerS SUPPORT should not be reserved for SLTs and the C-Suite, and that teachING young professionals THE SKILLS THEY NEED to FEEL IN CONTROL OF THEIR CAREER DEVELOPMENT Is a key step in future proofing your business.

BECAUSE Receiving CAREER DEVELOPMENT support matters to everyone

DON’T JUST TEACH THEM HOW TO DO THE JOB, TEACH THEM HOW TO BUILD A CAREER

I’ve spent thousands of hours talking to and working with young professionals, and one thing is obvious:

Your young talent want to do a great job.

They just don't know how to navigate the unwritten rules of the modern workplace and career development, so they end up feeling stuck. And when early-career talent feels stuck, they start to underperform, disengage, or leave, and then leadership chalks this up to a "lack of drive" or "poor culture fit."

But the reality? The key skills we all need to drive our own career development aren't taught in schools or universities.

And so we then have a problem.

You want them to win, they want to win, but they have a skills gap in knowing how to go about it.

And you can’t ignore this because, to be blunt, these are the skills that you need them to have in order for them to build a career with longevity within your organisation which, in turn, then supports your business’ ongoing growth and success.

This is why our signature workshop series aims to coach your young professionals to master the three key career development skills areas they need to feel in control of their careers:

CAREER OWNERSHIP

We have just finished a series with Caroline for our new Emerging Professionals provision; I wanted to recommend her as a CPD supplier as she has injected a breath of fresh air into our young/emerging professionals CPD programme. All events have had fantastic feedback; all have been oversubscribed and very well attended. All sessions have prompted our members to make tangible changes and created thoughtful and engaging conversations, taking away simple things they can implement back at work.

Let’s collaborate together to understand where your team is at, what they need and in turn, I will create a bespoke workshop to support your team’s development.

Topics for workshops could include:

  • How to find your superpower (and own it)

  • Set yourself up for success in your new role

  • Confidence, gravitas and being taken seriously in your early career

  • Building influence without authority

Each workshop is rooted in organisational psychology and include coaching exercises and relatable examples to create accessible and practical training that feels super relevant to your team’s needed so that they can start taking action immediately.

What participants say after the workshop

“Caroline's workshop was simple, but useful. Two things that stuck with me, make yourself visible, and remember you’re not a tree. If you’re not growing, it’s on you to do something about it.”

“I've always thought networking was something I'd be bad at until today. Thank you for making it feel like something that I shouldn’t be afraid of.”

“This is a great program! I wish I had something like this when I first started my career. ”

“The session was wonderful, really inspiring and thought provoking. You said that the start if you could go away with 1 thing that would be an achievement, I went away with a lot more! ”
